1. Please introduce yourself.
Rose, the girlthing doll maiden of this site.

2. How long have you been making websites?
I’ve been on the indie web since 2022. My first introduction to personal website making was making carrds in 2019.

3. And what got you into the hobby?
Sadly it was kinstagram for carrds and rentries. For actual html/css coding, it was Tommy on neocities! @gothiclolita

4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
Ones with lots of writing and commentary, both of which I’m bad at. I'm horrible at expressing my thoughts. That’s why I’m always in awe when others can so beautifully articulate theirs.

5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
I can only work when I’m motivated so most of my pages are spur of the moment.

6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
If I were to pick one it would be dreadromantic! I just love everything from the pages to their wardrobe. To find inspiration for my layouts, I usually search up old websites or pictures and collages I like.

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
Decorating said website.

8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
Finishing things that I start. Starting things I want to finish.

9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
I sometimes wish that all my pages were the same layout with like iframe links but I physically cannot I would go insane.

10. How confident are you with CSS?
50% I think

11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
No…

12. What is your favourite HTML element?
I know it’s super outdated, but font styles.

13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
div class = container or some badly misspelled version of it. The rest is in Gods hands.

14. Do you know JavaScript?
No, but seriously I should learn so I can flex on my youngest brother who also codes (not in web design). I can understand the basics to run some on my website.

15. How about PHP?
I have no idea

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?
Yes. I think. Still I try to play with the limited color palettes that I use.

17. Are you more focused on content or design?
Design… Mainly because 90% of the time I cringe at what I write and I fear oversharing.

18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
I don’t but if sweetheartmemory.vamp is available that would probably be it.

19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
Except for sites that are obvious rips of other sites I don’t see the bad thing about sites that are heavily nostalgia leaning. I think having more people making websites is already such a plus no matter if it’s nostalgia farming or not.

20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
As long as it doesn’t look atrocious other devices.

21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
I don’t think I have a strong opinion for or against it

22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
They’re cool. I find a lot of cool websites from button walls.

23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
Not really. I like my website, but sometimes I get the itch to make a pink and black theme. I love pinks with greys and blacks.

24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
Visually? No. Content wise? Yes...

25. What text editor do you use?
VS code. If it’s not a big project I just use neocities editor.

26. Why do you use that one?
Because brackets kinda sucked for me.

27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
I think my site is 80% hosted locally now. Still in the catbox moving process

28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?
I'm not that well immersed in both communities so I don’t know. I have a nekoweb account and I don’t like how there isn’t a feed because I love seeing posts and comments here.

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
Neocities says I'm only using 12% of my space

30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
No… if neocities disappears one day it’s over for me. I do love talking screenshots of my site so I have a lot of them

31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
They can both be pleasing to the eye so I can't choose.

32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
Black, red, white, greys. It’s just the colors that I love the most. Before, it was a lot of muted browns and yellows. I’m not opposed to change, but it comes naturally as opposed to manufactured to appear a certain way.

All the time, but still I love web design so I just can’t!

Solitary hobby I fear

35. Do people in your real life know about your website?

Over the summer it was everyday, now it’s when I have the time

37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
I don’t. I think having a set aesthetic takes away the pain of the thinking of how the next page is going to be because it’s the same color palette but a different layout

38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
hobby/me focused

39. Do you do web design professionally?
No

When applying to webrings and that’s about it. Email me!

I don’t have social media. I have a Pinterest if you can find it

43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
I don’t use discord. I used it periodically a couple years back and it was too complicated for me. I would rather just talk via messages or whatsapp for family. I do get the appeal though.

44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
I’m listening to music almost all the time. My music taste is broad so it could be literally anything

45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
Only one

46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
I would like to share more of my interests! For now it’s mostly like 2-4 topics

47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?
This is how I am lol. My interests, taste in music, diary entires, personality are all who I am. If I were to construct an online persona, I would have been 100% cooler than I am now. Probably would not be on neocities.

48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?
Not yet! But there are a lot of friendly people here

49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
I’m not sure. I haven’t had time to catch up on new html and ccs updates unfortunately.

50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?
Please!!! When you are overlaying images have them in the div of the content so that it doesn’t cover everything on smaller screens.

51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?
Pointer events set to none on images near links

57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
They are readable.. I wouldn’t say friendly

58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?
I love autoplay, but I would scare myself sometimes when opening my site so I stopped. I can’t imagine someone opening your site in a quiet classroom and gracing everyone with music.

59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?
I love them! Especially ones around hobbies and identities.

60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?

61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?
I don’t think so…

62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?
Every page is like a rabbit whole filled with so much content. I love sites that don’t have every single page spelled out on their nav bar. Makes it more fun to explore.

67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?
I make new css for every page I code.

They’re complicated.

69. How about table-based layouts?
I use a lot of archaic elements but I would never stoop that low.

70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?
I’ve tried the whole nav bar, updates column, intro column and staus cafe column and buttons thing but I just can’t. My recent homepage is the closest I can get to pages like that.

71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?
CSS

72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.
I don’t think that I have.

73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?
Not really. I sometimes reuse layouts.

74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?
I think I’m still like an advanced beginner if that’s even a word.

75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?
When I was first learning how to make sites. I almost never do now.

76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?
Mostly youtube, html and css help websites.

77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?
All the time.

79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?
px for the win.

The font I use on my homepage and webmistress page. The bold version has that weird color changing thing which is annoying or cool depending on what I want it to do

It depends on the content, but generally no

82. Do you surf the Web to find new personal websites very often?
I do about once a week.

83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?
I used to have so many bookmarks of old sozai sites before my old computer gave up on me. I don’t bookmark personal sites. I check in with sites when i remember to or when I see their updates. I can’t really stop others from bookmarking my site. In a way my hours spent coding wasn’t in vain.

84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?
Not sure.. my little doily animation on my homepage because I get mesmerized myself
85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?
I don’t collect tech

86. How often and for how long are you online?
I come on neocities daily to check what people are up to

87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?
Ive never thought of that… uhhh people who love j fashion and music? To be honest though, I don’t think my website has one because people with all different kinds of websites follow me.

93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?
Notes app

94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?
I guess so per my guestbook messages.

95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?
I love my old work. I don’t think I’ve deleted everything before... more like my site slowly morphed into what it is today

96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?
I guess I would leave an archive.

97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?
I hope not. People my age share way more on social media than I do. Like having your uni name and hometown in your ig bio is a bit crazy lol. Recording vids with where you live or house on full display etc etc.

98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?
Sadly I don’t have any lol. If I did I would 100% force them to make a site or make one for them

99. And do you optimise the images on your website?
I’ve been a fan of dithering images lately. Most of my images go through gif makers or are heavily edited which ruins the quality a bit

100. We're out of time! How do you feel after answering 100 questions? ....other than exhausted.
Did this to take a break from studying. Back to studying for me lol.
