- 1. Please introduce yourself.
- Rose, sweetheartmemory’s webmistress!
- 2. How long have you been making websites?
- I’ve been on the indie web since 2022. My first introduction to personal website making was making carrds in 2019.
- 3. And what got you into the hobby?
- Sadly it was kinstagram for carrds and rentries. For actual html/css coding, it was Tommy on neocities! @gothiclolita
- 4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
- Ones with lots of writing and commentary, both of which I’m kinda bad at. That’s why I’m always in awe when others can so beautifully articulate their opinions and thoughts.
- 5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
- I can only work when I’m motivated so most of my pages are spur of the moment
- 6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
- If I were to pick one it would be the dreadromantic! I just love everything from the website to their wardrobe. To find inspiration, I usually search up old websites or pictures and collages I like.
- 7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
- Decorating said website
- 8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
- Finishing things I start
- 9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
- I sometimes wish that all my pages were the same with like iframe links but I physically cannot I would go insane.
- 10. How confident are you with CSS?
- 60% I think
- 11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
- No…
- 12. What is your favourite HTML element?
- I know it’s super outdated, but you would have to neuralize me to prevent me from using font styles.
- 13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
- div class = container or some badly misspelled version of it. The rest is in Gods hands.
- 14. Do you know JavaScript?
- No, but seriously I should learn so I can flex on my youngest brother who also codes (not in web design). I can understand the basics to run some on my website.
- 15. How about PHP?
- I have no idea
- 16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?
- Yes. But I try to play with the limited color palettes that I use
- 17. Are you more focused on content or design?
- Design… Mainly because 90% of the time I cringe at what I write and I fear oversharing, and I’m also not that big into media even though I watch a lot of movies and shows I’m not that attached to any of them to make shrines and stuff. Scatch that this is off the record but I just had a dream I was in a poto play and I was Christine that was crazy. Wrote all this yesterday but I’m editing the next day in the morning so you get this information.
- 18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
- I don’t but if sweetheartmemory.vamp is a thing that would probably be it
- 19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
- Except for sites that are obvious rips of other sites I don’t see that bad thing about sites that are heavily nostalgia leaning. I think having more people making websites is already such a plus no matter if it’s nostalgia farming or not
- 20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
- As long as it doesn’t look atrocious other devices.
- 21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
- Do whatever you want. I don’t think I have a strong opinion for or against it
- 22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
- They’re cool. I find a lot of cool websites from button walls
- 23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
- Not really. I like my website, but sometimes I get the itch to make a pink and black theme. I love pinks with greys and blacks
- 24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
- Visually? No. Content wise, I envy sites that are so expressive! I aspire to be like them
- 25. What text editor do you use?
- VS code. If it’s not a big project I just use neocities editor.
- 26. Why do you use that one?
- Because brackets kinda sucked for me
- 27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
- I think my site is like 80% hosted locally now. Still in the catbox moving process
- 28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?
- I'm not that well immersed in both communities so I don’t know. I have a nekoweb and I kinda don’t like how there isn’t a feed because I love seeing posts and comments and stuff here.
- 29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
- Neocities says I'm only using 12.3% of my space
- 30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
- No… if neocities disappears one day it’s over for me. I do love talking screenshots of my site so I have a lot of them
- 31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
- They can both be pleasing to the eye so I can't choose.
- 32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
- Black, red, white, greys. It’s just the colors that I love the most. Before, it was a lot of muted browns and yellows. I’m not opposed to change, but it comes naturally as opposed to manufactured to appear a certain way
- 33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?
- All the time, but still I love web design so I just can’t!
- 34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?
- Solitary hobby I fear

- I haven’t explicitly showed anyone my site, but my brothers know that I code. Almost got one into neocities.
- 36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?
- Over the summer it was everyday, now it’s every week if I have the time
- 37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
- I don’t. I think having an aesthetic takes away the pain of the thinking of how the next page is going to be because it’s the same color palette but a different layout
- 38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
- hobby/me focused
- 39. Do you do web design professionally?
- No
- 40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?
- If I said to anyone at work irl that I did web design 100% they would put me to work for no pay.

- When applying to webrings and that’s about it. Email me!

- I don’t have social media. I have a Pinterest if you can find it
- 43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?

- 44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
- I’m listening to music almost all the time. My music taste is broad so it could be literally anything
- 45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
- Only one
- 46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
- I would like to share more of my interests! Maybe a page for plants and flowers. For now it’s mostly like 2-4 topics
- 47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?
- This is how I am lol. My interests, taste in music, diary entires, personality are all who I am. If I were to construct an online persona, I would have been 100% cooler than I am now. Probably won’t be on neocities to do that anyway. Granted in my time on neocities since I was like 16, I have changed a bit identity wise.
- 48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?
- Not yet! But there are a lot of friendly people here
- 49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
- I’m not sure. I haven’t had time to catch up on new html and ccs updates unfortunately

- Please!!! When you are overlaying images have them in the div so that it doesn’t cover everything the moment you switch to a smaller screen.

- 57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
- They are readable.. i wouldn’t say friendly

- I love them! Especially ones around hobbies and identities.

- I don’t think so…

- I use a lot of archaic elements but I would never stoop that low
- 70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?

- CSS

- I guess I would leave an archive.
